333 Christians lost their lives in Papua New Guinea during the invasion and occupation of the island by the Japanese forces during World War II. The greatest number of those who died - 198 - were Roman Catholics. But there were also Methodists, Salvationists, Lutherans, Anglicans, members of the Evangelical Church of Manus, and Seventh Day Adventists among the dead. As we commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of Victory in the Pacific, let us remember them. The sculpture to the right is of Lucien Tapiedi who died with the Anglican martyrs mentioned below.
