Hillsong Funding - a followup
Back in November, I posted about a controversy over government funding awarded to Hillsong. This post follows up with the news that funding has been withdrawn. Based on information, contained in this link one has to say that a) Hillsong has a lot to learn and b) that it has added itself to that long list of people, businesses, institutions and governments who have diverted money meant for Aboriginal people and purposes to whitefella interests, programs, and purposes. This breeds more distrust of whitefellas and does not advance Aboriginal people at all. In fact, it could be argued that, not only does it not advance them, they finish up in a worse situation than at the beginning. It would appear that trust has been breached between Hillsong and Aboriginal people. Will it ever be repaired? I doubt it. It would take a cultural change at Hillsong to bring about the necessary qualities to reverse what has happened in this instance. I do believe though that Hillsong is not built on solid foundations - neither intellectually nor spiritually. It remains to be seen what happens to Hillsong and the Houstons in the decades ahead.
