Bethlehem, the place of Jesus' birth, became unsafe for him and he had to flee, becoming a refugee in Egypt. Now, it seems, Christians living in Bethlehem are finding life precarious and many have already fled. This is a sorry state of affairs. However, the citizenry are not taking the matter lying down. They have declared Bethlehem an open city - in defiance of the wall hemming them in - and they have launched their own passport. Israel asks us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. How about they return the favour and have regard for Bethlehem?
