Makybe Diva did it brilliantly. Xcellent, who Margaret spoke about, came third and paid well. Tony Santic. the Australian tuna fisherman of Croatian origin who owns the Diva, has announced, in an emotional speech, that the Diva will now retire. Nothing more can be asked of her. She's a great gal - or, to be perfectly Australian, a bonzer sheila. She has made the history books by winning three Melbourne Cups and it will take a super effort to take her from the history books because not only did she do the three - she did them successively. All honour to her and Freedman, Boss and Santic.
